• It uses the same 9-point AF, ISO range and 63-zone metering as found on the T2i
• It uses the same 3.7FPS continuous shooting speed as the T2i. This last two points will only be applicable to T2i owners because when they buy a newer model, they would naturally expect to have an increase in specifications. RIM has launched a new addition in the Bold series of Smartphones. The Smartphone was unveiled during this year’s BlackBerry World conference in Florida. The NEX-5 offers an attractive combination of compact body and large APS-C sensor. Sony’s NEX camera takes on the Olympus and Panasonic’s Micro Four Thirds systems. Question is… Does the NEX-5 have enough power under the hood to challenge the ‘micro system cameras?’

It’s pretty clear that Sony is targeting compact camera users who would like to upgrade but are not interested in upgrading to a DSLR. Owners and reviewers agree the NEX-5 has more in common with compact cameras than it does with DSLRs – including fewer buttons and a completely different interface.

Different in that the interface offers the expected Sony options with descriptions, but in addition, it provides a full users guide directly available in the camera. Sony’s on-board user guide helps owners with a full range of things like how to hold the camera or how to achieve an out-of-focus portrait background.

Some users have indicated the unconventional menu system takes a bit of time to get used to. I always thought the screen on the first Galaxy S was amazing enough but I was wrong.

As with many modern smartphones the Samsung Galaxy s II runs Google Android OS v2.3.3 Gingerbread with many highly customisable features. The user interface design pre-loaded with the phone is TouchWiz v4.0 and has a sleak and modern design theme.

As for the networking, the Galaxy S II runs mobile web at 3G and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n giving up to 21mbs if connected to a wireless network. The battery life is also good with up to 710 hours standby time and up to 8 hours and 40 minutes call time. The processor itself is a Dual-core 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A9 and the Galaxy S II holds 1GB of RAM and either 16GB or 32GB storage.

The first thing that jumps out at you is the impressive size and weight of the phone. It is truely taking the lead in the race to create the lightest and thinnest smartphone on the market competing with the likes of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc and the Apple iPhone 4. The overall design is black with the Samsung logo clearly displayed at the top above the screen. There is a large home button in the middle with a touch screen menu button to left and a back button to the right. A selection of weather based live wallpapers are included with with a landscape and portrait mode and a standard full querty keyboard. Built with 3D rendoring technology it is possible to slide through seven customisable home screens with no pause or even the slightest delay. The multitasking is second to non with many applications able to run at once.

The only real negatives of this device is that there is no HDMI output port as seen on some Nokia and Sony Ericson models. The screen has an over glossy look and feel and there have been reported issues of bad GPS performance.

To conclude my review I would like to give the Samsung Galaxy S II a jaw dropping 9 / 10 as it has some great features, brilliant software and amazing hardware. The Samsung Galaxy S II is available on most major networks and is priced at around £430 ($700).
